Have a Go Clay Shooting

A perfect outing for you, friends and family
The “Have-a-Go” shooting area is specifically designed to cater for people who may not have shot before, with a range of targets that will see everybody breaking clays!
We can cater for groups of 1 to 100, for larger parties the typical group ratio of 6 participants to one instructor.
All our clay pigeon shooting experiences include a qualified shooting instructor, safety briefing, all the necessary personal protective equipment, a shotgun suitable to your size and stature, light load ammunition and the targets.
If you want to try your hand with an automatic or pump-action shotgun, we have a “Top Gun” add-on, which includes 18 or 24 shots with either a three-shot semi-auto or 3 shot pump-action shotgun. During the Southdown “Top Gun” session, you’ll be able to shoot at up to three targets in the air at the same time and really test your skills on the auto shooting range. This can be combined with a “Have-A-Go” session.
On the shoot day
In each session the group will rotate through the different shooting stands, each having a different target set that replicates wild quarry and that will include high crows, fast away teal and running rabbits, to mention a few. You can keep a tally of the hits and at the end announce the “High Gun” winner.
Southdown Gun Club offers several clay pigeon shooting experience packages to choose from, the “Have-a-Go” sessions start at 15/25/30/50/60 clays per person, the most popular being the 30 target shoot. For younger shooters we would recommend choosing 25 or 30 clays maximum to shoot.
Typically for a group of 6 people, the 25/30 clay packages take 2 hours and the 50/60 packages take 3 hours. If you want to make more of a day of it, the 50 & 60 clay packages can be split into two sessions with a break in between for refreshments in our Café.
A great way to enjoy a bit of everything we have to offer at Southdown is to do one of our ‘Try Southdown’ sessions. With this you get to shoot 15 clays, have 15 shots with one of 3 shot semi auto shotguns, have a go at axe throwing and also have a chance to hit some targets on our fun air rifle range. All 4 activities are great fun. This session will take approximately 1 hour per person.
To make more of your experience we can arrange engraved gold, silver and bronze medals at a cost of just £5 each. We also have “Top Gun” T-shirts available for £10 each which can be purchased on the day.
