It’s a misconception that clay pigeon shooting is a sport for men only, there are a growing number of lady shooters, some of whom shoot for fun and some very talented lady shots who are successful at the very highest levels of competition shooting.
At Southdown we believe that clay pigeon shooting is an inclusive sport, that is great fun for everyone! Whether you are a beginner looking for a new hobby, or an experienced shot wanting to develop your skills. Taking tuition at Southdown Gun Club is the obvious place to start, as we have a team of male and female instructors, all with professional qualifications.
Flexible Tuition, All Year-Round
The Southdown Shooting School is a private tuition area, where you will be able to receive one-to-one instruction and learn at your own pace. If you have your own gun we will be pleased for you to use it, however we also have a full range of club guns available. This, coupled with our special light load cartridge, a reduced recoil is guaranteed. The shooting school is open all year round and tuition is available Thursday to Sunday each week.
START AS YOU MEAN TO GO ON …
If you are new to shooting we strongly recommend you get professional tuition from a qualified instructor from the outset. This will ensure you develop good practice and avoid the need to undo bad habits at a later date.
FIRST LESSON WILL INCLUDE:
- An introduction to clay or game shooting
- Gun safety and general etiquette
- Correct gun mount
- Eye dominance check
- Firearm legislation and compliance
- How to shoot – starting with basic, gentle targets
ALWAYS IMPROVING …
If you are an experienced shot and want to get to the next level, but are struggling with a specific target, or you want to improve your general technique, Southdown Shooting School is the place for you, as we have the largest range of targets available in the South East including, Sporting, FITASC, Trap and Skeet.

If you have a game shooting day lined up and want to get the best out of it, you won’t go wrong with a game shooting lesson at Southdown Shooting School. Why not use our dedicated game area which includes high towers, grouse butts and with notice we can even arrange a driven flush?
Cancellation Policy
- You may reschedule or cancel your lesson up to 7 days before the booked date
- Thereafter if you cancel or are a no show on the day we require full payment. If you have booked using a voucher you will forfeit your voucher
