Southdown Grand Masters 2026

Southdown Gun Club was one of the original grounds to hold a Grand Masters and we have held our Grand Masters for well over twenty years. That said ironically, there is much more competition in the championship shooting calendar nowadays, which is great for shooting in general.

Our Grand Masters is now a 120 bird Sporting competition shot on one day, it is a CPSA registered event open to anyone to book onto and shoot.

We would like to thank our sponsors Hull, GMK & Eley who are very kindly supporting the event in 2026 with prizes in addition to the cash prizes.

Here’s what’s new for 2026

The Southdown Grand Masters Competition 2026 promises a premier day of competitive shooting, headlined by a 120-target Registered Sporting event, proudly sponsored by Hull and GMK, with Hull generously donating 5,000 Hull Pro One cartridges.

The event features a guaranteed High Gun prize of £1,000, with £100 awarded in each class, paying up to five places, combining both cash and prizes. Sporting squads will commence at 9:30am, running at 10-minute intervals throughout the day until 3:30pm.

Alongside this, a 100-target Registered Sportrap will take place on the same day, kindly sponsored by Eley, who have donated 3,000 Eley Olympic Blue cartridges, plus gun slips and shooting kit bags. Sportrap squads will begin at 9:10am, running every 20 minutes until 3:30pm.

GMK will be on site throughout the day with a dedicated trade stand.

This year also marks 500 years of Beretta. From the Beretta 694 Black DLC to the DT11 range, each gun represents true craftsmanship and excellence. Come and see them first-hand on the day.

2026 Prize Fund

There are fantastic prizes up for grabs across all categories. We are guaranteeing a £1,000 cash prize for High Gun, along with guaranteed cash prizes for up to 5th place.

Additional prizes and cash awards will be available for Veterans, Ladies, Juniors and Colts, ensuring there’s something to compete for in every category.

We are delighted to welcome Hull & GMK as sponsors of the Grand Masters Sporting Event, with Hull kindly donating 5,000 Hull Pro One cartridges.

For the Sportrap Event, we are pleased to be sponsored by Eley, who are generously donating 3,000 Olympic Blue cartridges, along with slips and kit bags.

Our events takes place at our club at Muntham Farm, Findon, West Sussex BN14 0RQ

Standard Sporting rules apply in accordance with the CPSA regulations. The course is set across our Sporting layout and set as Competition level targets. This is one of the competitions in the year where we increase the number of birds to 120 which are shot over 15 stands.

We host all events with squadded shooting groups as this improves the shooting times and reduces waiting and queues. The Referees will walk you around the layout and take the scores and these are recorded back at reception and entered on the CPSA Shoot system.

We run the CPSA Shoot system which displays the scores on screens at the Clubhouse  during the day. Final scores, and all the winners, are announced online by Southdown Gun Club following the competition, and also on the CPSA website.

The winners have their names engraved on our Grand Masters Champions board in the Clubhouse for all to see and in addition take home a trophy to hold onto for the year, also engraved with their name. Will you be next to join previous Southdown Grand Masters?

Last year’s event at Southdown Gun Club was won by George Digweed MBE, whose name now sits alongside previous High Gun champions including Billy Greenwood, Richard Faulds MBE and other distinguished winners on the honours board. As anticipation builds for this year’s competition, attention turns once again to those who may add their names to this prestigious list. Will Adrian Balham secure a remarkable fifth entry as Veterans High Gun, or will Tristan Hockey continue his impressive record by claiming a fourth Junior title? As ever, the standard of competition promises to be exceptional, and the outcome eagerly awaited.
